What is Morning Sickness?
Nausea, vomitting, stomach ache, bloated stomach always occur especially early in the morning after you wake up. Nausea can occur at any time, but often in the morning. This symptoms is known as morning sickness. This is normal for the first trimester. Some women experience this throughout pregnancy.Vomiting is a more severe form of morning sickness. It can occur any time of the day. But watch out for extreme vomitting. This is clinically call as Hyperemesis gravidarum. Over-vomitting can cause weight loss, dehydration and in some cases sufferer's vomit may contain blood stain due injury at the throat. Sufferer will become so weak and sometime feel like fainting. Hyperemesis gravidum sufferer need to be hospitalized if they keep on vomitting for intravenous treatment to rehydrate the patient. Although this sounds hazardous and painful, but no long-term
affects due to this condition have been reported for the fetus. The stomach pain and bloated stomach is normal for pregnant women due to acid reflux increasement. Try to keep eating light snack such as fruit, salads, juice, and milk every one or two hour.
Morning Sickness Causes
There's no medical report that proven causes of morning sickness but several factors is believed to be the reasons. The hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hcg) is believed to contribute to nausea and
vomiting due to its rapid rising while pregnant, especially after midnight to morning. Some believe that a sensitiveness sense of smell during
pregnancy can make a woman feel uncomfortable to certain odors and cause nausea and vomiting. Lastly,
a vitamin B6 deficiency may make a woman more susceptible to morning sickness.
Prevention/Solution
When you feel little nausea, drink a lot of water, try to eat light healthy snack like milkshake, fruit salad, bacon sandwich. Keep crackers or another salty, bland food at your bed side as you can eat ii the midnight or in the morning. Never let your stomach empty as this is the main reason for vomitting. Banana is advisable for morning sickness. Avoid caffeine, sodas, and carbonated drinks may have a calming affect
on the stomach. Also, try to avoid fatty, deep fried food and food that contain a lot of spice. Get some fresh air after wake up. See your doctor if the symptoms persist. There are some medication to treat morning sickness. But, a pregnant woman must be very careful about what medication she takes, because many can be harmful to
a growing fetus. Make sure your medication is prescribe by certified doctor. Don't forget to take a vitamin B6 Supplement. This been common knowledge for a while, but only recently has been used
to stop morning sickness. In the 1940's, several studies were made on over 300 women, and the conclusions were the same: taking 25 mg - 60 mg of B6 each day can prevent or greatly reduce morning sickness. It should be taken 3 times a day, in 10 mg - 20 mg capsules at a time. Once as soon as you wake before anything else, once in the middle of the day, and one time at night before bed. Do NOT exceed 100 mg a day, as nerve damage can result from such high dosages.
Natural Remedy for Nausea and Vomiting
- Treat nausea with ginger tea. Slice a few slivers of raw ginger. Add it to boiling water. You may consume it as drink.
- Chew a small slice of raw ginger to relieve the effects of vomiting and nausea. The Chinese have known the curative properties of Ginger and use it extensively in their everyday cooking. It is proven to reduce the gas in the stomach.
- Treat vomiting and nausea with peppermint. Rub the peppermint oil on your gums. Sniffing the peppermint aroma also enough to stop vomiting and nausea. This is called peppermint oil inhalation technique. Simply drop 1 - 3 drops of peppermint essential oil on a handkerchief or napkin, and hold that napkin over the mouth and inhale. Peppermint has a soothing effect, and will reduce the symptoms of nausea. This remedy is extremely effective, and was written up in "The Journal of Advanced Nursing" back in September, 1997. Keep some peppermint sweets in the cupboard and suck on peppermint candy.
